This summer, Congressman John Garamendi and Congresswoman Norma Torres introduced the Job Opportunities Between our Shores (JOBS Act). The goal of the legislation is to promote advanced manufacturing in California and throughout the United States, and give dislocated workers the training and skills they need to find jobs in growing industries.

According to Congressman Garamendi’s newsletter, the JOBS Act would:

  • Authorize the Secretary of Labor to create pilot projects between advanced manufacturers and local community colleges, state colleges, and workforce investment boards to create training and education programs in the field of advanced manufacturing.
  • Establish performance standards for all training and education programs to ensure participants have the tools they need for a successful career in advanced manufacturing.
  • Give priority to incumbent workers, dislocated workers, and unemployed individuals.
